"Spirit of Women"

“Spirit of Women” 54” x 40” Oil on Linen

This is a recent painting from my trip to Spain. Two young women modeled for me in their medieval costumes. I had them pose on a hill that overlooked the wheat field in the town of Ayllon, Spain I liked the look, the mood and the expressions of the young women. That is what inspired me to paint this painting.

Segrada Familia Cathedral in Barcelona

While in Barcelona we visited the Segrada Familia Cathedral. It is amazing and very thought provoking.  Designed by Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí (1852–1926) construction of Sagrada Família started in 1882 and Gaudí became involved in 1883 taking over the project combining Gothic and curvilinear Art Nouveau forms. At the time of Gaudi's death in 1926, less than a quarter of the project was complete.  Sagrada Família's construction progressed slowly, as it relied on private donations. Construction passed the midpoint in 2010 with some of the project's greatest challenges remaining and an anticipated completion date of 2026, the centenary of Gaudí's death.  Hope that I get to see it when it is completed.
